What suggestions do you have to improve Learning Suite?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Allow TAs to select which email they use.

When TAs send an email to the students in the class through LS, allow them to select their personal email account or the generic TA email address set up by the instructor.

  2. Place where you could sign up for times to see professor

Ability to compare available times, or sign up for a particular time to meet with the instructor or TA. Schedule online chat (if LearningSuite had online chats).

  3. allow instructors to customize dashboard

Right now, the dashboard contains announcements and the schedule. This is not that useful to me. I am posting material in a content page that I feel needs to be on the front page of the course. Sometimes the content that I want on the front page will change at different points in the semester. It would be nice for professors to have more complete control over the front page on learning suite. Students sometimes have a hard time finding information because it is hidden from the front page.

  4. Add an attribute to each page in Learning Suite that allows an instructor to explicitly mark a page as world-readable (including syllabus).

I and many of my colleagues are finding that placing our course content in the Learning Suite silo is overly constraining. We would like to share more of our resources with each other and with the world. Some of the course content is private and for students only, but much of it is not. It has been recently problematic that we cannot look at one another’s courses. With these issues in mind, I would like to submit the following feature requests:

  5. File management

I typically organize files by class. For example hw1.pdf is class dependent. Rather than storing all of the files in a flat directory, organization by class would be very helpful. Also, when updating files, please allow for a replace function. Currently we have to go to home, delete the file, then back into the assignment page to upload the new file.

  6. Freeze the menu bar on FILES page

Make menu bar visible on FILES page if the number of files is more than one screen -- similar to Freeze Panes in Excel. When I scroll down through my files, I can no longer see the menu bar.

  7. Allow bold print and underline in messages

Bold print and underline fonts in messages would allow emphasis of important words I want my students to make sure they've noticed/read.

  8. Allow the instructor to designate/limit TA access to LS

I have a TA I would like to have limited access to LS, for the purposes of syllabus refinement, etc. I would like to be able to limit/prevent access to the gradebook.

  9. Sort TA hours by the day of the week.

Currently, TA office hours display by however they're entered - so if Friday's hours are entered in the first line and Tuesday's are on the second line, Friday's display first. Once saved, they should sort according to day of the week, not how they were entered.

  10. Notify professor when a student drops after the add/drop deadline

I was wondering if there was any way that Professors and TAs could receive notification when a student drops the class after the add/drop deadline. Every time that a student drops the class, I never find out until I go to enter in their test or homework grade, only to find out that they don't exist on the rolls any more. When they drop the class, I'd prefer not to have to grade their tests/homework, just to shred them when I find out they're no longer in the class.

  14. Send emails based on an if/then situation.

For example, when a student enrolls in a course, a preexisting email is sent.

  20. Show "breadcrumbs" when in sub-folders

When I'm in a subfolder in files, there is not indication what sub-folder I'm in. It would be very helpful if the subfolder was displayed somewhere on the page. It would be even more helpful if a "breadcrumb" display was available where I could click on something in the file path to go to any location in the subfolder hierarchy.
