  1. Provide better management of uploaded files

    Uploading files for viewing by students is a useful feature, but does not provide the instructor adequate control. In particular, if a file (such as a PDF of a classroom lecture) is updated, the older version cannot be replaced (although it can be added under a new name). I file management page would be helpful.

    • Sort TA hours by the day of the week.

      Currently, TA office hours display by however they're entered - so if Friday's hours are entered in the first line and Tuesday's are on the second line, Friday's display first. Once saved, they should sort according to day of the week, not how they were entered.

      • Show pictures of all users next to their names.

        This would include instructors, TAs, and students. It might also be a good idea to make this feature optional.

          • Allow sections from the same course, but taught by different instructors, to be combined into a single LS course!

            We "team" teach the same course (several instructors, same course) - in blackboard we could combine the sections together so that the students had access to all materials provided by all professors. One stop shopping! Make this happen in LS.

            • Team functionality for students

              I really need teams functionality. I know that is on the drawing board. I use team-based-learning and the the digital delivery of team work is awkward when I can't group students into teams. This should include a team PEER ASSESSMENT (team maintenance) tool either in the team section or in the exam section.

              • Assign different due dates to different groups of students.

                When we have group projects, the groups will present on different dates. I would like to either be able to create an assignment not attached to one date, or be able to assign different due dates for the various groups.

                  • Ability to provide textual information about the categories of different kinds of assignments or grades.

                    I want to be able to tell students something about that particular category of assignment or exam that is common to all assignments in that category. My work-around is to tell them on the first time they encounter an assignment from that category, but that seems less good because it is confusing about whether it applies to just that assignment or to all assignments in that particular category.

                      • Photos under the "BYU Grades" tab.

                        It would be really nice if student photos were displayed under the "BYU Grades" tab. It would help to learn names, and would eliminate the need to go to the class schedule to put a name to a face when the grades show that students are struggling.

                          I would rather allow a student to submit late, with a small point penalty as a disincentive, than to bar them from submitting it. The system would automatically assess a point penalty when an assignment is late. You would need four boxes:
                          1. penalty amount
                          2. score unit (% or points)
                          3. time amount
                          4. time unit

                                Put all items to be graded on the instructor and TA dashboard for ease of knowing what remains.

                                • Give students the ability to just view files instead of downloading them.

                                  When posting a document to a discussion group it gives the students a button that will download the file for them. There are two issues with this approach - They may be on a device or in a location where saving is not appropriate, helpful or available (on an iPad, for example). The suggestion is that we give them more than one button - perhaps a "View" and a "Save As"

                                    • Create a view of a student's performance over time

                                      Allow an instructor (and even the student) to view a plot of any particular student's overall grade as a function of time. This would enable us to see if a student performed better in the class at the beginning of the semester, at the end, or fairly constant throughout. Allow it to be compared with a trend line for the highest and the average grade in the class. In addition to providing insight to individual student circumstances, it would also help show if the course is well paced or if some portions of the course might be taught too quickly…

                                      • Let instructors submit assignments to test

                                        When setting up a course, I have no idea what students see when they submit an assignment so I can help them or test that it's working, even in student view. At least let us see the box that pops up when they hit the submit button. Ideally, the instructor should have a "dummy student" account to test submission and grading procedures.

                                          We need to be able to use negative scores in learning suite to accurately evaluate the progress and understanding of our students.
