  1. Overall score deceives students by ignoring assignment category weights

The gradebook in Learning Suite can be deceiving, in my experience. It reports an “Overall score” that is a percentage of total points earned without regard to the weight of those points. Consequently, it will paint an inaccurately rosy picture, and students think they are performing better than they really are, leading to potential let-down at the end of the semester. One colleague reports angry students who were caught off-guard by their true final grade, resulting in appeals to chair and dean and unnecessary hassles.

Of course, if a student wants an accurate snapshot of the current course grade, he…

  3. Place some visual indicator on grade columns that are hidden from student view

Current Situation: In the Gradebook, I can go to a grade column-->click the down arrow-->click on Edit Assignment-->select Scheduling (tab at top)-->and then fill in the Hide an Assignment box for a date in the future. Once that date is populated, I have no way of knowing that the grade column is hidden for my students, unless I open up the Edit Assignment dialogue box again. This is especially problematic for courses that get copied from one semester to another; those "hide until dates" appear to copy to the next semester (and increment the year to the next year so…

  4. Late option for quizzes

Include the option of allowing students to complete a quiz late. Even better, include the option of deducting points or a percentage for each day late.

  5. Allow for languages that type right to left

I must admit that this appears to be a huge step backwards for us. We should not have to be in the business of HTML programming in order to enter Arabic into the text boxes.

  6. Batch download *by section*

In order to expedite grading for large classes with multiple sections, we would love to see an improved "Batch Download" feature that allows users to download assignments from a specific section or multiple specific sections.
Currently, all assignments across every section is downloaded by this feature.

  7. MathML or Latex in the announcements too, not just on the schedule/exams/etc.

The math (latex, mathml) works pretty well for the most part on the schedule. But I can't use it announcements. So if I try and post an announcement, following up on a math-heavy discussion, to send to the whole class, I'm hamstrung with plain text, no LaTEX allowed. Wouldn't it be pretty easy to extend math into the announcements

  8. Enable notifications for when students have read/accessed feedback given on grades.

I spend a lot of time typing comments that accompany scores that I record. It would greatly help if I knew whether or not students had seen that feedback.

  9. Add support for right-to-left languages

Our course websites were much more effective when we could include (and ask students to produce) material in the target language on the site.

Learning Suite still provides no support for right-to-left languages.

  10. Simplify group creation in Digital Dialog

Easier options for forming groups in Digital Dialog.
An option for automatic group formation by group size, or number of groups. Group randomly, by alphabet, perhaps even balance genders.
Also, the groups show the size they had when created, but some lost students through adds/drops. It's difficult to know into which groups to add new students, without going through EVERY group counting manually.

  11. At the end of the exam, it has ONE button, "Finished & Submit". Can that be separated to TWO, "Finished" and "Submit".

Two buttons as "Finished" and "Submit" at the end of the exam. The last page of the exam does not save if you did not click "Finished & Submit" at the very end. If you go back and review your answers although you completed the exam, when the time is over, you missed the last page because you did not press "Finished and Submit". There needs to be TWO button, "Finished" and another for "Submit".

  12. Make it easier for me to see the feedback I've programmed into exams

In "Exams," under "Questions," it would be great if the "Expanded" view showed the feedback I'm giving students with each answer. I want to review & edit what I've put in there, and I would like to see it in all one place. Currently, for me to see the feedback that I've entered, I need to "edit" each question individually. Showing all the feedback on the "extended view" would be very helpful.

  13. Allow individual students multiple attempts on an exam

To my knowledge, in order to enable a student to attempt an exam after a previous submission, we have to allow the whole class to attempt the exam again (Exam options > Submissions > "Allow students to take this exam more than once")

In the event of a student experiencing some special circumstance that I deem worthy of deserving an additional attempt, I would like to be able to enable the affected student, not the entire class, to attempt the exam once more (or some other limited number of times).

A hypothetical example of what I'm asking for:
    My student…

  14. Add Option for online content

Add option for online content including the ability for the content to be viewed in LearningSuite but NOT downloaded, copied, or printed. Some journals and book publishers are concerned that their material can be downloaded by students and then shared or posted on the internet. This feature would allow students to view the content inside LearningSuite but prevent distribution.

  15. Integrate Turnitin Grademark into LS

Turnitin's Grademark system is VASTLY superior to the built-in Learning Suite grading interface. It's far more functional, adaptable, user friendly, and works on iPad. I know that you've already added a button to automatically transfer the Grademark scores - it only works occasionally and, even when it does, sometimes transfers the wrong scores, but that's a different discussion. The main problem is that students have a hard time finding the Grademark feedback. I recommend replacing the unusable LS grader altogether with Grademark and setting it up so students can access the feedback with a single click.

  17. "Permanent record" capacity for each student.

For example, if they take an exam that is required by multiple classes, their grade is available to each class. If they take IRB training, it is archived. Etc.

  18. It would be nice to be able to edit content offline, say as an xml file, and then upload to LS

It would be nice if we could have access to content offline. This would allow us to run scripts to automate the creation of repetitive content, to edit things faster than the editor can keep up with, and to save our own copy of the course.

  19. Disable notifications for specific chain emails

You should be able to mute notifications on specific email threads. This way, students can silence uninteresting email threads, so that when they get a notification they can have higher confidence that it will be relevant to them.

  20. Allow students to modify fonts in open responses on exams

When writing an exam question I can use different fonts and modify those fonts (bold, italics, underline, etc) but students cannot do the same in their responses. It would be helpful to me if they could use those fonts in their responses.
