How can we improve BYU LEARNING SUITE?

  1. Quick View of Class Grades

On the main page where you see all of the your classes, it would be nice to see your grade in that class next to the class name. For example:

    A HTG 100 85%
    COMMS 101 96.8%
    DNCE 181 94%

    Something like that.

  2. A "Turn Off Notifications" Feature

I get a lot of messages that do not apply to me. I actually need to know if I have relevant messages in my inbox from TA's but close to 75% of the notifications I get are from people who are asking for notes and then all the replies of "I need them too!" or "The syllabus says don't do that" etc. I would like to be able to simply not receive notifications from those messages so I know if my TA's or professors have actually shared relevant information with me.

  3. Mobile Phone: Grid Schedule

BYU's learning suite combined calendar is a helpful tool. On mobile devices when the grid - calendar is selected, but when I try to scroll down to see the rest of the grid, it switches back to "list mode". Please fix this!

A previous request was made for this fix, but it was declined. If you aren't going to fix it, then removed the "grid combined calendar" option for mobile phones. Currently it is unusable.

  4. Fix the Messages "Help" link

The "Help" button on LearningSuite messages has been a broken link for my entire time at BYU. It directs to the page 'https://lsinfo.byu.edu/messages-2'; which simply says "Page not found."

  5. Individual customization of navigation bar

I wish there was more freedom to customize the navigation bar at the top of the LearningSuite home page. Some ideas include:

    - Allowing individuals to rename courses. When you take a lot of courses in the same department, you constantly have to sort through a list of nearly identical course names (such as HIST 200, HIST 201, HIST 220, etc.) to get to the page for the correct course. Allowing students to rename these pages more intuitively (such as "World Civ", "Hist Craft", etc.) would reduce confusion and promote efficiency among students.

    - Allowing students to color-code the tabs…

  6. Allow assignment submissions via Cloud services (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.)

Canvas has that really nice feature that fetches assignments directly from cloud services. That'd be really nice.

  7. LearningSuite app

I really think that LearningSuite needs it's own app. I know there's a section for it on the BYU app, but it's confusing, and it doesn't work well. I co-own a software development company with my brother that would be happy to build this app for you. I would love to hear your thoughts on this idea, and hopefully we can work together!

  8. Show all TA open lab hours in a weekly schedule format.

All of the TAs open lab hours are listed beneath their names, but it would be more helpful to see the list in a weekly calendar format. Sometimes a student doesn't care which TA has which hours, they just want to know if there will be a TA in the open lab before they make the trip to campus. If a class has multiple TAs in multiple places, then the system can sort by the room location of the office hours.

  9. Add the section number of the class onto LS.

In essays and so forth you sometimes have to put your section number on the assignment. It would be much more convenient if the number was under the name on each tab. Example: "ECON 110" with "sec 002" right underneath it with smaller characters . You could also add it on the "All Courses" tab under "Course List." One or both of these would be more convenient and probably very easy to do.

  10. Assignment due email reminder

It think it would be useful to add an option of receiving an email reminder one day before an assignment is due.

  11. Combined grades and Cumulative GPA

Just like the combined schedule that is on learning suite, it would be great if there was a list of current grades in each class and a current cumulative GPA. It can be very tedious to do it through the GPA calculator

  12. For Grading: Add a button next to "Score" that fills in a 100%

I'm a TA grader. Oftentimes, students will get a 100%, or close to that, so having to type in a number for every student takes longer than it could. For example, if the Assignment is out of 50 points, then next to where it says ___ / 50, just add a button that would fill in 50 in the box.

I've attached an image of a rough mockup

  13. Have a "sent history" on the email tab so that I can look back at past messages I have sent.

I'd like to be able to look back on the emails I've sent through Learning Suite for things like drafted emails that were never sent, emails I have sent, and emails that might not have gone through.

  14. Make the My Courses ribbon also show the course names

As I get nearer to the end of my BYU experience, I have more and more courses that all come from the same department, which can get confusing. It would be nice if the My Courses ribbon listed the course names (or let me add something), so I can keep things organized in my head!

  15. Notification system for graded assignments.

It would be cool to have a notification system for graded assignments. The idea being that you could click on an assignment and ask to be emailed when your grade has been entered.

  16. No more comparisons!

I don't understand the need for a comparison button. I have gone my whole schooling career without ever knowing how I compared to everyone else in the class, and you know what? I've been fine! Pride begins with comparisons, and not to mention the low self-esteem one receives when they've done worse than everyone else in the class. I'm disappointed with BYU and the standards it stands for if it has pride-promoting buttons next to every single assignment. Please remove this! It does more damage than it's worth!

  17. Include "REPORT ABUSE" Feature in Messaging

Many of us have seen abuse of the messaging system. This can include everything from people making irrelevant small talk in a chat for the entire class down to students being bullied because of political affiliation. There are cases of students arguing and name calling in a class message thread. These things are certainly and abuse of the system and can be an abuse of individuals. Online abuse is serious and abuse of the system is annoying. It should be reported properly. Reporting would include a notification to the professor and possibly to LS admin.

  18. Different colors for submitting exam buttons

Have different colors for the submit and next question buttons.

Have confirmation like " Are you sure you want to submit this exam?"

I clicked the wrong button after the first exam and it submitted! Got a really bad score on that one!

  19. More Grading Statistics (Standard Deviation, median, Q1, and Q3)

The new statistics section looks good! Thank you for adding that. In addition to the statistics currently given, I recommend adding a few more.

Specifically, the standard deviation and the median score would be extremely useful.

Additionally, the first and third quartile would be good to know.

  20. Learning Suite Quizzes Should Save Automatically!!! (Or at least have a save button)

In the days of Gmail, when you can't got three seconds without your email draft being saved, how hard can it be to have Learning Suite save your work as you go?

Even if that is for some reason too complicated, couldn't we at least add a save button? I've had Learning Suite lose my work 4 times now when I click submit. Do you know how frustrating that is on a short answer quiz? It is possibly the most demoralizing feeling one could have, next to the emotions I felt when waking up this morning and seeing the ground…
