How can we improve BYU LEARNING SUITE?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Onscreen icon to show when there are Saturday/Sunday items not showing

    Small, but
    (1) for those that have these items, it would probably be a blessing to not need to hit 7 days every time (making it a persistent changed setting would also change it for this group), but
    (2) for those who don't regularly have Saturday items so it's more of a surprise (so they probably won't have changed the setting out of a desire to keep screen real estate).

The notification could just be a small red exclamation point or something similar on the right side of the screen at the top of the calendar. *Hovering* would have a…

  2. Improve editing of self-added notes/items

    1) Right now if you want to delete a note, you click on it and select "Edit" and then "Delete". This can be a time-consuming process. "Delete" should be moved to the flyout itself, perhaps with a confirmation window if that is a concern (though I think it may not be)

    2) When saving an edit to a previously created note, the button for saving reads "update" (as in C.R.U.D.). It should read "save" for non-technical users.

    3) The ability to change a note's date would be helpful. Right now users are forced to delete each note and then recreate…

  3. Copy and paste iCalendar feed on mobile devices (Android specifically)

I cannot copy the iCalendar link when viewing Learning Suite on a mobile browser. This seems like a simple fix, but it's very irritating.

  4. Automatically create a to-do list based off of assignments

Have a to do list that the student can edit. They should be able to edit completion time, add assignments/readings, take away assignments.

  5. Remove the left navigation bar when viewing the aggregated schedule

This will buy all users real estate when coming to the landing page of Learning Suite when it eventually becomes the main page (which is my understanding is the eventual goal once performance issues are ironed out--it'll be great. Very few know about the aggregated schedule still. :). This might mean some customization away from existing templates, but I think it's well worth the value added to students in making the calendar more usable.

The biggest issue I see is finding a home for 'Course List', 'Announcements' and 'Assignments'. As the Schedule already exists in its own 'class'* with these…

  6. Connect the schedule to the materials used that day

It would be great if the uploaded materials used in class could be synchronized with the schedule. What I mean by this is that it would be great, for example, if I could just click a part of the class schedule for that day and that click will take me to the materials used on that day so that I don't have to look for the materials uploaded in another folder somewhere in the Learning Suite.

  7. Change arrows on aggregated Schedule to both be to the left of the date range.

The position of the current arrows on the aggregated schedule are affected by the dates of the week because they appear to the left *and* right of the date range. When transitioning between months, the date range item changes from something like "January 20-24" to "March 31-April 4". This increases the size of the date range which pushes the right arrow to the right. When trying to move through weeks quickly the behavior becomes frustrating as you have to move the position of the cursor to play hide-and-seek with the moving arrow. ;) A number of other calendars handle this…

  8. Change (aggregate) Schedule Dropdown Settings to Show Course Tabs, not Settings.

Concerning the arrow dropdown menu on the row headers of the aggregate schedule that currently lead to selecting content columns (for instance: "lectures" and "homework") for a given course:

    (1) These settings, I believe, are probably very rarely accessed (I'd guess at most a few times a semester if at all for most users though I don't if anything is in place currently to track this). They could potentially be moved somewhere a little more remote. I believe this dropdown could be repopulated with much more useful (and frequently accessed) content and features, even if these remain as a last…
